Invitaic – How to build green buildings with new distribution methods?(4)

A PEDF power distribution system can effectively solve two key problems of zero-carbon transition of power system, namely increasing the installed capacity of distributed renewable energy generation and effectively consuming the fluctuating renewable energy generation. PEDF is the abbreviation of the application of photovoltaics (P), energy storage (E), direct current (D) and flexibility (F) in the building field, which is not just simply combine the above technologies independently, but is organically integrated and constitute a whole to realize “flexible energy use”, i.e. to achieve friendly interaction between buildings and the grid. 

The development of a new type of power distribution method for buildings, including photovoltaics (P), energy storage (E), direct current (D) and flexibility (F), is an effective means to suppress grid fluctuations, effectively consume renewable energy, and achieve “carbon neutrality” in buildings. 

FLEXIBILITY (F)

Flexible power consumption, which is also the ultimate purpose of PEDF system, refers to the DC voltage changes to transmit the demand for electricity to the load, self-regulation, to create a flexible load. The concept of flexible building is proposed by the International Energy Agency IEA EBC Annex 67 (2014-2020) system: under the condition of meeting normal use, the building is made elastic to external energy demand through various technologies to cope with the uncertainty brought by the supply of large amounts of renewable energy. With the integration of building photovoltaic, energy storage systems, intelligent appliances and other building DC distribution system, the building will no longer be a load of electricity in the traditional sense, but will achieve power generation, energy storage, regulation, electricity and other functions. The “controllable load” feature of the flexible building is of great significance to the operation and regulation of the power grid.

Peak-shaving and valley-filling to ease the pressure of power grid

Air conditioners, charging piles and other electricity-using devices are the main reason for the growth of building electricity load. If the flexibility of these systems can be fully exploited, on the one hand, energy storage facilities such as cold storage, ice storage and electricity storage can be configured, and on the other hand, the operation and scheduling strategy of these power-using devices can be optimized by combining the energy demand and load characteristics of buildings, it is possible to significantly reduce the peak load of the power grid.
